Monticello Reserve Ale

http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/01/27/2037724/jeffersons-monticello-makes-ale.html

I would like to try some but lightly hopped and contains corn makes me skeptical.

Where's the Beef?

http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/01/25/2032760/taco-bell-asked-wheres-the-beef.html

I am amazed bordering upon stupification that Taco Bell's beefy burritos contain less beef than people think.

Genetic Conservatism in Grapes

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/25/science/25wine.html?pagewanted=1&nl=todaysheadlines&emc=tha210

Wine drinkers must adapt.

Foodways

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/25/books/25book.html?nl=todaysheadlines&emc=tha28

I will probably not read this book, but if I did, I would learn about a lot of things that I know very little about.

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/68/60958

From Flying Dog Brewery in Frederick, Maryland.

I very much want to try this.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/features/food/newsletter/sns-newsletter-old-world-breads,0,3394568.story?track=ct-fooddrink-12011

I particularly liked the comparison to someone who loves a good IPA.

Mixology

http://www.mixology.com/issues/40sr/index.htm

Lots of weird stuff here, not just drink recipes.

Long Island Ice(d) Tea

http://www.loving-long-island.com/long-island-ice-tea-history-and-recipe.html

Some interesting questions about the origins.

And is it Ice Tea or Iced Tea? This article has it both ways.

Williams Pear Brandy

http://www.clearcreekdistillery.com/pear.html

Very interesting, an American brandy that is actually distilled from fermented fruit.

Tasting Armagnac

http://www.drinkfocus.com/articles/brandy/armagnac.php

"powerful alcohol esters can sting your nasal passages."

Ouch.

Gooseberry Jam

http://www.visitmarshfieldwi.com/attractions/countryside.php

The Farmhouse Bakery etc. in Granton does not have its own web site.

Their Gooseberry Jam is one of the best jams I have ever tasted.

Unfortunately, they are a 4 hour drive from home and I do not remember where I bought the jar locally.

Mae West

http://cocktails.about.com/od/cocktailrecipes/r/mae_wst_cktl.htm

Now here is something I could do with cheap brandy.

Bottled Water

http://www.rodale.com/bottled-water-industry?cm_mmc=DailyNewsNL-_-2011_01_19-_-Top5-_-NA

Tough times for the bottled water industry.

Where Bars Trump Grocery Stores

http://flowingdata.com/2010/03/02/where-bars-trump-grocery-stores/

The map says it all.

Korbel Brandy

http://www.bevmo.com/Shop/ProductDetail.aspx?N=174+4294967049&ProductID=12443

Korbel VSOP Gold Reserve Brandy

In spite of the grandiose name, this is the kind of cheap brandy favored by Wisconsin brandy drinkers, infamous as consumers of vast per capita volumes of cheap alcohol.

Calvados

http://heavenlyspirits.jimdo.com/calvados.php

Will have to scout around to see if any is available locally.

French Whisky

http://heavenlyspirits.jimdo.com/2011/01/04/exceptional-french-whisky-now-available-in-the-us-via-heavenly-spirits/

I would like to try a shot.

Lyon

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/19/dining/reviews/19rest.html?nl=todaysheadlines&emc=tha210

If I am ever in Greenwich Village, maybe I can stop in for a quick bite.

Rushing Waters

http://www.rushingwaters.net/index.html

Their smoked trout spread is excellent, as good as the (no longer available) Smoked Trout Mousse from the Brown Trout in Indian River, Michigan.

Soup

http://www.soupsong.com/

Everything you ever wanted to know about soup.

Parsnips

http://www.rodale.com/parsnip-recipes?cm_mmc=DailyNewsNL-_-2011_01_14-_-Top5-_-NA

I love parsnips and they are a good source of fiber.

Italian Craft Beers

http://www.chicagotribune.com/features/food/newsletter/sns-newsletter-italian-beers,0,911215.story?track=ct-fooddrink-11311

Finding them might be a challenge but I want to try them all.

Cod

http://www.edf.org/page.cfm?tagID=15844

Alaska cod (longline) is an eco-best fish, but when I go to the fish counter, how do I know where it really comes from?

Canned Salmon

http://www.edf.org/page.cfm?tagID=16960

I should eat more canned salmon.

Schreiner's Restaurant

http://www.fdlchowder.com/

We stopped in Fond du Lac for lunch on our way home from Oshkosh.

Chicken salad club sandwich, bowl of chili, banana cream pie.

All excellent.

Good service.

Baltimore Bang

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/recipes/2011/01/14/baltimore-bang/

I would like to try one but since real apricot brandies are generally unavailable, what is one to do?

Eat More FIsh

http://www.rodale.com/easy-fish-recipes?cm_mmc=DailyNewsNL-_-2011_01_11-_-Top5-_-NA

I am in favor of it.

Apple Salsa

http://www.slacksjellyfarm.com/

Somewhere in our travels, we picked up a jar of Slack's Apple Salsa.

Very flavorful, made with Honeycrisp apples and jalapenos.

Excellent texture. I am tired of watery salsas. This salsa is thick and chunky.

Health Benefits of Chickpeas

http://www.everynutrient.com/healthbenefitsofchickpeas.html

I need to eat more chickpeas, at least until I develop gout.
