Road Warrior

http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2743/118987/

On tap at the Bosch in Hales Corners.

Excellent, but with so many good local beers, why do they get their beer all the way from California?

Apple & Onion Jam

http://www.spoon.com/savories/relishes-condiments/apple-onion-jam.html

Very flavorful.

I had it on boneless, skinless chicken breast and it was excellent.

Apricot Hot Sauce

http://www.spoon.com/savories/grilling-sauces/apricot-hot-sauce.html

Best hot sauce I ever ate, not the hottest, but the most flavorful.

This is not one of those "burn your mouth with no flavor" sauces that everyone and their brother has.

Features the rich flavors of apricot, ginger, and lime.

Bobby's BBQ Sauce

Sweet and smoky?

Bartolotta BBQ

http://www.bartolottas.com/restaurants/miss-beverlys-bbq

We visited Miss Beverly's Deluxe Barbecue today.

High quality, modest portion sizes, and not cheap.

It is going to be interesting to see how they do.

Stone Creek Coffee

We went to the Tosa location this morning.

Excellent coffee and very good pastries.

Spicy Tomato and Dill Soup

http://www.opensourcefood.com/people/globebug/recipes/spicy-tomato-dill-soup

We bought some soup by that name at the Tosa farmers market, it was very good.

This recipe looks simple enough, maybe I should try to make my own.

Intestinal Gas

http://www.nanps.org/index.php/gardening/native-plants-to-know/124-camassia-quamash-blue-camas-6-1

When eaten raw or only partially cooked, the plants can produce substantial amounts of intestinal gas, as Captain Lewis eloquently noted: “…when in the Indian hut I was almost blown out by the strength of the wind.”

Excellent quote.

Like Minds Brewing Co.

http://m.jsonline.com/264570461.htm

As a general rule, I am not a fan of things like rhubarb and cucumber in my beer.

But it is a good thing to have a new nano brewery in Milwaukee.

The Ruby Tap

http://www.therubytap.com/

On Monday, June 23, 2014, we attended the Baird party at The Ruby Tap in Wauwatosa.

Very good spread of charcuterie, cheese, and olives.

Solid selection of bottled craft beers.  I had the MKE Booyah (Farmhouse Ale).

Fun time.

Judging from the menu, they are serious about sausages.

Shrimp and Rice

Going to have to substitute some kind of Penzey's spice for the Cajun because of preferences of family members.

Stuffed Burgers with Homemade Ketchup

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/guy-fieri/killer-inside-out-burger-with-worcestershire-tomato-ketchup-recipe.html

I am more interested in the ketchup than the burgers.

Everyone and their brother has a gourmet mustard, why is there such a paucity of choices on ketchup?

I Shoulda Had a V8

12 servings of vegetables in a 46 ounce bottle.

Easy for me to chug down the whole bottle in no time at all.

Two Women

http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/590/57471/

Two Women by New Glarus

Having a hard time relating to the extremely high scores for this beer.

A good beer, but not a great beer.

A change of pace, but not my every day beer.

Mac and Cheese

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/stove-top-mac-n-cheese-recipe.html

Looks like an interesting combination of flavors with the hot sauce and dry mustard.

Pheasant Bread

We are using a Panasonic SD-YD205 bread machine, and getting very good results with several different recipes.

Add ingredients to machine in order listed.  This is important.

Pheasant Bread

1 1/2 cups water
2 teaspoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3 cups bread flour
1 packet yeast

Produces a moist, crusty loaf.

Note: No pheasants were harmed in the making of this bread.

Hales Corners Style Cod Stew

1 quart vegetable broth
1 sweet onion, diced
5 ribs celery, diced
5 carrots, peeled and diced
olive oil, varying amounts
8 red salad potatoes, washed and cut into eighths
1 bag (10-14 ounces) frozen corn
2 medium filets of fresh cod

Pour broth into crock pot/slow cooker and set on high.

Saute onion, celery, and carrots in olive oil (twice around the pan?) in a skillet until just starting to brown.  Add vegetables to broth.

Toss potatoes with just enough olive oil to coat.  Roast potatoes in 400 degree oven until browned.  Add potatoes to crock pot.

Add corn to crock pot.

Broil cod until just starting to flake.  Add cod to crock pot.

Turn heat on crock pot down to low.  Gently simmer until the people are ready to eat.

Serve with crusty bread.

Healthy Roasted Eggplant

http://www.farmgirlfare.com/2011/10/recipe-easy-and-healthy-roasted.html

I made it with eggplant, sweet onion, and a mix of sweet bell peppers.

It was very good.

Scones vs. Biscuits

According to the pastry chef quoted in this article, they are about the same (paraphrasing).

Another dead food blog

Heartbreaking.

Tsamma Watermelon

http://www.oikostreecrops.com/Seeds-/Seeds/Tsamma-Watermelon/p-129-170-1227/

"...the flesh is white and nearly tasteless."

Excellent.

Madison Sourdough

http://madisonsourdough.com/

I want to go for breakfast, again for lunch, and then attend classes.

No sourdough starter on the menu?

Thighs

http://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-bake-boneless-skinless-chicken-thighs-cooking-lessons-from-the-kitchn-180140

I am going to try this, see if I can get a juicier, more flavorful result than broiling.

Boboli Pizza

One Boboli thin crust
One packet Boboli pizza sauce
8oz shredded reduced fat mozzarella

Baked at 425 degrees for 7 minutes on a cookie sheet.

Very good, but not as good as Ann's.

Brennan's Cheese

Green County Artisanal Triple Cream Butterkase

from Brennan's Cellars

This is a heavenly cheese.

Pacific Black Cod

http://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/pan_simmered_pacific_black_cod/

I wonder if this recipe would work with regular cod.

Craft & Vessel in Shorewood

http://onmilwaukee.com/myOMC/authors/mollysnyder/craftandvesselshorewood.html

Interesting that they are going to offer growlers of craft beer.

Potatoes and Onions

"good cooking is potatoes and onions."

Homemade Yogurt

We are using a Cuisinart electronic yogurt maker with automatic cooling, model CYM-100WS.

We have been using Sassy Cow skim milk.

We started the first batch with a freeze dried yogurt culture (Euro Cuisine Yogurt Starter Mix), but after that first batch, we have been reusing the yogurt culture in subsequent batches.

Very good results, good flavor, but the texture is a little runnier that we would like.

So we are using a yogurt strainer to make Greek style yogurt, which produces a very solid texture, and we love it.

Pratt Street Ale House

I have been there and would love to return.

Totally failing to see why we cannot have a similar venue in Hales Corners.

Almond Biscuits

Almond Biscuits

Preheat oven to 450.

2/3 cup shortening
3 1/2 cups flour
5 t baking powder
1 t salt
1 T sugar
1 1/2 cups Almond Breeze unsweetened vanilla almond milk

Mix dry ingredients.

Cut shortening into flour mixture until texture resembles fine crumbs.

Add milk and mix until dough rounds up into ball.

Knead dough gently.  Kneading improves texture but do not over do it or biscuits will be tough.

Turn dough onto floured surface, roll to half inch thickness, and cut into about 15-16 pieces.

Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 8-10 minutes.

You want them slightly browned but not over browned.

Upland Komodo Dragon Fly Black IPA

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1170/56119/

I better get over to Three Cellars before they sell out.

Heavy Seas Siren Noire
